Our company president, Ben Lucero, loves to share stories when our customers shop for a mortgage.

Last week, a realtor called Indigo Mortgage and said one of her clients was quoted an interest rate of 5.75% on a Federal Housing Administration purchase loan. She thought that was way too high and we suggested her client give us a call. Indigo Mortgage was not only able to give this borrower a rate that was below five percent but also saved her $1,350 in lender fees.

We also had a veteran with perfect credit call Indigo mortgage who was working with a national online mortgage lender and was getting a rate of 5.25%. Indigo Mortgage was able to get this veteran a rate in the mid four percent range and cut his fees by about $1800!

We’ve also had three different borrowers reach out to Indigo Mortgage regarding Reverse mortgages. They said that the lenders they were speaking to were pushy and would not answer their questions. We consulted with them and answered their concerns and we were able to save them a few thousand dollars in closing costs! Reverse Mortgage Education

Most seniors have seen the ads on television, received the emails or the postcards in the mail. Advertisements for reverse mortgages are everywhere. At Indigo Mortgage, unlike large national lenders or big banks, we advise caution for seniors considering reverse mortgages. We know that there are many factors to take into account and many questions to ask before deciding if a reverse mortgage is right for you.

Indigo mortgage cares about your mortgage. We never want our customers to enter into a loan that isn’t right for them. It is important that seniors have the opportunity to ask as many questions as they need because reverse mortgages are so different from other types of mortgages. That’s why when seniors approach us with questions about reverse mortgages, we take great care in making sure they know exactly what to expect. We even require our customers to go through a counseling session with an FHA approved reverse mortgage counselor. The counselor is not affiliated with Indigo Mortgage or any other lender, their goal is simply to educate.

Reverse Mortgages: Keep it Local

As the population ages, the mortgage industry is seeing a large increase in reverse mortgages. Many companies advertise their reverse mortgage services, but many of these lenders are large national companies, or out-of-state lenders. At Indigo Mortgage, we encourage seniors to keep their loans local. Here’s why, especially when it comes to reverse mortgages.

When potential borrowers engage national lenders or out-of-state lenders, often they find that they are put under a lot of pressure. Many times, the lenders are vague and do not answer all questions fully. Instead of helping borrowers understand the pros and cons of the reverse mortgage program, these lenders are more concerned with making a profit. Borrowers may never be able to speak with their loan originator face-to-face, and, after the transaction has been completed, they may never hear from them again.

It seems like every time you turn on the TV, you’re bombarded with commercials for reverse mortgages. Famous actors are often enlisted to promote the benefits of reverse mortgages, but when seniors engage these big advertisers, things change very quickly. Indigo Mortgage is certified to offer reverse mortgages, and we get numerous calls from seniors who have called these lenders.

Often, seniors tell us that when they call one of these national advertisers to inquire about a reverse mortgage, they are put under a lot of pressure, but the lenders do not take time to answer the senior’s questions.
